SelectPlusDad, Sister Attend Mass for Tim RussertDad, Sister Attend Mass for Tim RussertThe Associated PressTim Russert's alma mater held a Mass in Buffalo to remember the 'Meet The Press' journalist. His dad, who was unable to attend his Washington funeral was there. (June 24)[Notes:ANCHOR VOICE] Forty years ago, Tim Russert graduated from Canisius High School in Buffalo, New York. Over the weekend, his former classmates held their reunion. Then many attended a memorial service in the school for the Meet The Press moderator. For a lot of the people who packed the auditorium, it was a chance to say goodbye and pay tribute.SOT: Tim Kane, Canisius Class of 1980: "when I heard that Tim had passed it was like a family member. He had been so good to, not only Buffalo, but to particularly Canisius. That I just had to come out and pay tribute to all the things he's done for us."SOT: Kevin Walter, Canisius Class of 1973: "I think he was instrumental in getting a lot of positive reflection on Buffalo."Russert's sudden death in Washington on June 13th hit Buffalo hard. His devotion to the city, and its devotion to him were obvious. But the crowd on Sunday, included more than just fans from his hometown, it included Russert's dad, Big Russ, who was unable to make it to the wake and funeral in Washington - and his sister, Kathy.SOT: Kathy Hughes, Tim Russert's Sister: "Tim was such a big part of all our lives. He always kept in contact with us. My dad he called daily. I talked to him maybe twice a week or so."She says the Mass was particularly important for their dad because the relationship between the two men was so close. ___ ___, The Associated Press

SelectPlusRussert Remembered on Meet the PressRussert Remembered on Meet the PressThe Associated PressTim Russert's chair was empty on 'Meet the Press' on Sunday, two days after his unexpected death. (June 15)[Notes:from Meet the press]SOT"From N-B-C News in Washington, this is Meet the press with Tim Russert."N-B-C has paid tribute to Tim Russert by leaving his chair empty on Meet the Press on Sunday. The the network's Washington bureau chief died unexpectedly at work Friday of a heart attack. And the show he hosted longer than anyone else dedicated it's full hour to him.SOT BrokawHis voice has been stilled and our issue this sad Sunday morning is remembering our colleague and friend."Brokaw and about a half a dozen others then chronicled his life remembering interviews he had conducted and recalling that while he was tough he was also fair.[Notes:AP video from outside of the studio]SOT James CarvilleHe prepared hard and he expected that people came on the show they be prepared. He took great offense at people who didn't, treated the show lightly and had great respect for those who even though they tripped up gave a sense a preparation.Still, while this show was a deemed a celebration of Russert's life and work it was clear that the mourning period is not over. The flag outside the studios in Washington flew at half staff and his coworkers and colleagues shared hugs as they filtered in and offered words of praise as they left.SOT Elanor CliftThat set is weird without Tim.SOT Pat Buchanan He was a great guy he had an infectious sense of humor he loved the work he was doingSOT BrokawHe raised the level of political dialogue in this country. He made the candidates better made journalists better. It was a real public service to the country to be able to tune in on Sunday Meet the Press and take the measure of these people who want to be our leaders.[Notes:Meet the press courtesy]The void now leaves N-B-C scrambling to fill this chair. There is no word who will next week or beyond that. ___ ___, The Associated Press.
